The Finance Manager supports the overall role of Finance Department in ensuring that the organization operates with timely and accurate financial information.

The Finance Manager monitors the organization’s Endowment and Retirement Plan and is responsible for providing timely and accurate investment reporting.  He/she assists with the monthly financial closing as well as with budgeting and reporting at the departmental level. He/she acts as a liaison with outside auditors for financial statement and defined benefit plan audits.


Endowment and Retirement Plan

  • Communicate with custodians, fund managers and consultants about AJC’s investments, inclusive of rebalancing efforts at the directive of AJC’s Investment Committee
  • Perform investment reconciliation and roll-forward monthly for the Endowment and Retirement Plan
  • Prepare monthly adjustments recording AJC’s endowment distribution and changes in fair market value

Monthly Financial Closing

  • Oversee recording of transactions related to Concur, International offices and other investments
  • Serve as backup for Assistant Controller in preparation of monthly internal financial statements

Departmental Budgeting and Reporting

  • Supervise Finance staff assigned to oversee the Regional Offices and ensure timely and accurate submission of their financial data, and act as main point of contact for the needs of the Regional Offices
  • Responsible for preparing quarterly Regional Office financial performance reports and helping Area Directors and Presidents to understand and communicate the reports to their local boards
  • Responsible for preparing quarterly financial reports to all other departments
  • Work with the Controller in preparing annual budgets

Annual Financial Audits, Form 990 and Other Reports

  • Assist the Controller and Assistant Controller with the preparation of audited financial statements, footnotes, and supplemental information
  • Prepare audited financial statements, footnotes and supplemental information for defined benefit pension plan and 403b plan
  • Work with Assistant Controller to develop initial draft of Form 990, which is provided to the Controller for review
  • Complete other projects as assigned by the Controller, examples of which might include:
  • Help Controller provide financial updates to rating agencies
  • Perform cost analyses to identify and pursue cost reduction opportunities in our spending categories
  • Streamlining business processes in cooperation with finance, IT, and other departments to improve efficiencies and productivity
  • Support the AJC effort to develop and collect programmatic activities and important metrics across the organization that measure the impact of the work


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant is preferred
  • 7 years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of accounting for and administering investment portfolios
  • Intermediate level knowledge of all accounting functions and related internal controls,including accounts receivable, accounts payable
  • Good knowledge of US GAAP and willingness to research and resolve accounting application
  • Strong technical accounting, analytical and project management skills o Auditing skills with ability to research and reconcile difficult accounts. o Excellent verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.

  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills

  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Computer skills required: highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word and accounting software
