Our client, The Met Council, www.metcouncil.org is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy.

They seek a dynamic and results driven Director of Strategic Initiatives to advance the reach and impact of Met Council’s food program. This person will be responsible for facilitating the implementation of strategic initiatives, pursuing and developing new areas and models of growth, and for furthering partnership opportunities within the network of food providers and funders at both a local and national level.

Principal Responsibilities:

The Director of Strategic Initiatives, Food Programs, will be a “thinker” and a “do’er” working directly with the Managing Director of Met Council’s Food Programs on:

  • Short, medium, and long-term strategic planning, as well as advancing Met Council’s Food Programs research and evaluation efforts
  • Scaling and implementing new programs and initiatives designed to distribute more emergency food in ways that increase the dignity and convenience of the client
  • Supervising staff who work on a range of strategic initiatives with Food Programs, including a robust digital pantry technology platform, implementing innovative models of service delivery, and expanding our policy efforts
  • Identifying and facilitating new partnership opportunities
  • Elevating the work of Met Council and the issues related to food insecurity among the kosher- and halal-requiring communities at food insecurity forums
  • Helping to cultivate donors and strategic partners
  • Collaborating with food team leadership and interdepartmental partners on special projects and initiatives

Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience (preferably in the area of human services)
  • Experience with public presentations and operating with a high level of professionalism (required)
  • Experience forging and building relationships with community and government leaders (required)
  • Experience supervising professional staff (required)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (required)
  • Knowledge of CRMs, ERPs, and other digital tools (preferred)
  • Must have a passion for serving the Jewish community and others in need of our services, consistent with the mission of Met Council
  • Demonstrated ability in project management and tracking and advancing programmatic deliverables
  • Ability to articulate goals, objectives, progress in written form for grant applications and reporting
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement activities appropriate to the advancement of organizational goals
  • Must be able to Travel throughout the five boroughs using public transportation
  • Strong oral and written communication, leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with professionals from all backgrounds.
  • Ability to monitor and manage budgets
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with other individuals and organizations and operate with a high degree of professionalism
  • A high degree of organizational, program development, management, planning, human relations, reporting and evaluation skills
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interest of the agency
