Our client is Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit, a K-8 Community Day School.  (www.hillelday.org). They seek a Head of School.

Responsibilities

I. Chief Executive

  • Evaluate, refine, execute and administer policies of the school
  • Articulate and represent the school’s mission and achievements to all constituencies
  • Serve as liaison to Board of Trustees; representing the Board to the faculty, staff, students, parents and others
  • Cultivate leadership in and strengthen the school administrative team
  • Evaluate, hire and terminate all employees of the school, in conjunction with appropriate leadership team members
  • Pursue and execute and effective supervisory model
  • Strengthen the sense of community for students, staff and parents
  • Refine the school’s mission and pursue its strategic future, including establishing a five-year strategic plan in collaboration with the Board and school community

II. Administrative

  • Personally model the mission and philosophy of the school
  • Maintain and strengthen school culture, safety and quality of life
  • Assess the effectiveness of all operations and programs
  • Oversee admissions and recruitment, marketing and fundraising
  • Oversee financial operations and maintenance of facilities, in collaboration with the chief operating officer and financial team
  • Oversee disciplinary matters, including serving as final decision-maker for action related to any student or employee

III.  Community outreach

  • Actively assess and integrate in the metro Detroit Jewish community, including representing the school at non-school communal functions
  • Collaborate and engage with other Jewish organizations and peer schools  and major donors
  • Maintain relationships with and engage with outside accreditation organizations as needed

IV. Curriculum and instruction

  • Set vision for instruction; align curriculum enhancements and integration of technology; assess effectiveness of instruction and report to the Board
  • Closely understand educational trends, and the local and regional educational landscape
  • Develop and implement a school-wide professional development plan

Qualifications

  • College degree(s) in education and/or child development; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred
  • Successful teaching or other educational experience; with experience in a Jewish school preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including proven success in senior administrative/leadership role
  • Understanding and capability to lead and navigate a community Jewish day school
  • Commitment to academic goals of students and the mission and philosophy of the school
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence, self-awareness and interpersonal skills
