Job Description:

The Director of Planned Giving holds primary responsibility to support the organization’s long-term financial strength through gifts of estates, trusts, life insurance, charitable gift annuities and various other and financial venues that reflect financial planning and deferred giving opportunities. The Director of Planned Giving serves as fundraising liaison to the regional development staff and prepares written materials, including having primary responsibility for training and support for other staff members working with donors on deferred and planned gifts. The position reports to the Chief Development Officer (CDO).

Job Duties:

  • Develop and promote donations through estates, trusts, charitable gift annuities, gifts of life insurance and other financial arraignments that reflect financial planning and deferred giving opportunities
  • Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects and promote this valuable fundraising tool
  • Prepare donor gift annuity proposals and direct trust bank in administration of the annuity program
  • Provide stewardship of existing planned giving donors
  • Monitor estate proceedings to protect organization’s interests and serves as the primary contact for executors and estate attorneys
  • Serve as a liaison to the chapters to secure planned giving gifts and related donor engagement, including educating development staff to recognize planned giving opportunities
  • Oversee Legacy Society initiative, including enrollment and recognition events
  • Responsible for creating materials with the Marketing department including digital and printed outreach materials, direct mailing, and advertisements
  • Work in coordination with other initiatives lead by the development department to ensure maximization of our donor development efforts
  • Manage a staff of one Assistant Director

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required
  • At least 5 years’ experience in planned giving
  • Background career in law, accounting or financial planning a plus
  • Demonstrated success in promoting planned giving opportunities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with all age groups are required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required
  • Knowledge of current laws regarding taxability of donations, familiarity with deferred giving strategies, and knowledge of a diverse array of financial instruments are essential
  • Working knowledge or familiarity with PG Calc or Crescendo
